What is Hypnotherapy? As far back as 3000 BC we have seen the uses of hypnosis in the Egyptian dream temples. It was used as an anesthesia in surgery until chloroform was discovered. It was accepted in 1958 by the American medical Association as a tool that can be used in therapy with amazing results.
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxed focus. When the conscious mind is relaxed the subconscious mind becomes more accessible. This allows for expanded possibilities for change with the help of a trained therapist. The hypnotherapist does not control you in any way; they are just your guide. The actual power for change is within the mind of the person who enters the state of hypnosis. When you are in hypnosis your body relaxes, your breathing slows, your blood pressure goes down, and your heart rate lowers. You are not asleep when you are in hypnosis, nor can you be compelled to do anything against your will. At any time you have the ability to come out of hypnosis. You also have full memory of what happened during your session. The mind does not know the difference between an imagined event or a real one. When we are in hypnosis we use our imagination to make the changes that we are looking for. We may talk to our conscious mind and say we want change. But for true change to occur we need to engage the subconscious mind. We need to discover what your limiting patterns, beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviors are. We want the subconscious mind to match our wishes and desires. This can be accomplished with a skilled hypnotherapist. |
